Who We Are

Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative was organized on August 14, 1940.  Since that time, what started with 1,680 members has grown to serve more than 73,000 customers in five counties over more than 7,300 miles of power lines.  Along with providing reliable service, Blue Ridge has evolved to provide services to its members that are relevant and transformative in a changing world.  The same power lines that were built to carry electricity to the countryside are now being used to bring fiber into homes of our rural areas.  As a not-for-profit, member-owned distribution utility our employees are dedicated to quality service with a human touch.

In the fall of 2024, Blue Ridge Co-op partnered with WCFIBER, a subsidiary of West Carolina Telephone Cooperative to form Upcountry Fiber.  The goal of this partnership is to reach all unserved or underserved communities with quality high-speed internet service.  In the fall of 2024, more than 35,000 addresses have access to fiber that connects directly to the home.  For more information on Upcountry Fiber, visit their website.
