Members can benefit from the Co-op Connections card
Jun 1, 2009

In mid May, Co-op Connections cards and key fobs were mailed to all Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative members. These cards are similar to those one can receive from supermarket chains.

When a Blue Ridge member presents the card at a participating business, he or she will be awarded a discount for any purchases made. There’s no charge to either the co-op member or to the business. This isn’t a coupon. It’s a card that can be used over and over to obtain discounts.

An attractive pharmacy discount

One very attractive feature of the Co-op Connections card is the pharmacy discount. Using the card can produce savings of 10 to 60 percent on short-term, acute-care medications such as antibiotics and pain killers. More than 55,000 pharmacies nationwide have already signed up and are participating in this program—Wal-Mart, Rite-Aid, CVS, and Walgreens among them.

I do want to emphasize that the Co-op Connections card isn’t the same thing as drug-insurance coverage. It’s strictly a pharmacy discount offer. Upon presenting the card to a pharmacist, the user would then pay the lower of either a discounted price or the pharmacy’s regular retail price. There are no forms to fill out and no limit to the number of times one can use the card. Discounts are available only at participating retail pharmacies.

Attractive discounts are also offered for a host of other products and services. These would include automotive, entertainment, financial services, health/beauty, healthcare, home care, lodging, restaurants, and technology.

One can view a complete listing of affiliated businesses, both national and local, at www.connections.coop. Periodically, Blue Ridge will list local participating merchants in the pages of this magazine. Such businesses will display signs denoting their affiliation with Co-op Connections.

Many merchants participating

The Blue Ridge marketing department is presently making contacts with businesses all across the cooperative’s service territory. As a result of these contacts, we expect many merchants will join the Co-op Connections program. We’ll call those businesses to your attention as they come on board.

Co-op Connections is designed to provide extra value to you as a Blue Ridge member. I would encourage you to take advantage of its benefits.

Sincerely,

Charles E. Dalton
